What's the difference between foldback limiting circuit and current limiting circuits??
please help

Current limiting is changing the CV mode of the supply to constant current mode on the overloading point .The supply does not trip to go down to zero. However , the voltage keeps falling..
In the foldback mode, the point of trip shuts down the supply to hold-on without generating output voltage .
The load is protected .

Dear Friend
Hi
When you do short circuiting your out put of power supply , the out put loss power , will increase , and you don't want that , because it is not economical , ok? so you can use a simple way to optimize your circuit as well as , that called fold back , consider that you want 2 amperes at your out put ( with load ) your supply can give you 2 amperes , but after 2 amperes , it's short circuit current will decrease.

Simple current limiting produces a fixed, high output current into a shorted load.

Foldback limiting has the same sort of constant-current limiting when near the
desired output voltage, but if the output voltage falls to a range that indicates
a short or just excessive load, the current setpoint is further reduced so that
the device will not overheat, the upstream supply will not be bled down for
no useful result, etc.
