How to confirm if the crystal oscillator is working or not. as controller is not giving output after programming in the external programmer.
 

Did you check the crystal oscillator. how did you confirm that program is not executing.
You can check the oscillation in the oscilloscope to verify it
 

sorry i dont have an oscilloscope, any other alternative.

how far is it reliable
 

voltage 2.9v at pin 18 only. no voltage at 19
 

check physical connectivity of the connection. if it is sorrect check for dry solder. or check if pin 19 is grounded.

if everything is OK, then replace the crystal

YOUR suggestion is works. the leed of crytal is broke while soldering. tomorrow i get new crystal and solder it.

Please suggest some good books for learning debugging hardware, as i am computer science student. i cannot see hardware problem unless told to do step by step
