My problem looks like this: the modem/router is powered all the time. Each time I turn my computer (win7-64) on or leave it unattended for a while, it resets the modem and speed drops to less than a half ..
On the same network I’ve got XP machines and they don’t do it.
Has anyone experienced similar problem?

Sounds weird ..
Do you have the latest driver for NIC?
If so, try to uninstall it, reboot, let windows to install it again, reboot, and see how it goes ..

And in 'Power-Options" uncheck all boxes ..

I have the latest driver and everything seems to work fine.
When the computer is turned on windows shows the internet/network connection OK but when I open IE8 and try to open a website it restarts the already working modem.

How about manually assigning IP addresses for all computers involved?
I know that the recommended setting is “automatically” but, who knows, maybe problem starts there ..

I put router on top of computer, together with the wireless/switch. Do you think it may casue issues?

You have to try a lot of things, and one of first things to do will be to move router-switch away from computer and test the speed ..

Speed is not the most important issue for me but the resetting of modem is.
I'll try to move modem.

Have a look at this:

Does anything from there sound familiar to you?

:?:

Yes, it does.
Funny thing is though that when I came back to the WIN7 computer after several hours it started download at full speed, then droped speed and reset the modem.
I have bloody no idea what to do with it.
As I mentioned befor, all XP computers don't do that.

Re: Widows 7 – 64: resetting network modem on powe

I can see only one solution: switch to different operating system ..
Try Win7-32, as after reading all these threads on Win7 internet problems I’ve come to conclusion that 64-bit OS has some unidentified issues, or downgrade back to XP ..

You can also consider making your machine dual-boot: Win7-64 / Win7-32, or Win7-64 / XP-SP3 ..

Hmmmmmmm, I like Win7.

Re: Widows 7 – 64: resetting network modem on powe

I saw similar thread somewhere else and after thorough investigation and testing several options the culprit was the network adapter driver ..
After the installation of the latest driver the issues with resetting modem/router were gone ..
Double-check you driver version and make sure that you have the current version ..

I have the---latest version of all drivers, including modem/router, motherboard NIC and so on.
Do you think if I disable motherboard NIC and use "external"PCI NIC with new drivers, will it change anything?

The internet is running at a crawling speed and nothing seems to work.
I'm going back to XP

Re: Widows 7 – 64: resetting network modem on powe

It's hard to believe the culprit is Windows 7 ..
Check out you hardware ..
