How to convert a spark i/p voltage(1kV dc) to high dc voltage(around 5kV)..

I have tried using basic multiplier circuits (Diode & Capacitor combinations),but i didn't get the required o/p. If the i/p is AC then we can use basic multipliers but what if i/p is PULSE signal?
Please help me out.
