hi. I would like to construct a Chebyshev 5-Element Low-Pass Filter (between linear and antenna) for 1431 khz. I would like to use standar capacitor values, which are easy to find. My problem is to find how many turns with 2mm diameter wire i need for the two coils of the filter. The filter is for an experimental univerisity radio station. I need to use 2mm diameter of wire, because the linear have maximum output 500watt. thank you very much.

It would be useful if you said the value of inductor you wanted!

A single layer air wound inductor has an inductance of (0.394 r^2 N^2)/(9r + 10l)

Inductance in uH
r is radius in cm
l is length in cm

and l must be greater than 0.67r

Use the RFsim99 free software to design and tune the filter for usual capacitors.
Also the program has an option to design air core inductors, which I found is pretty accurate.

I have used it to design an HF (3-30 MHz) filter bank and it works fine (at least for me)
Be careful, i'ts not a synthesis tool but it's useful if you know (more or less) the number of turns you need.
