How to read RSSI values from RFID reader?

Hi;

I am working on a project that uses a TCP/IP active adjustable gain RFID reader (2.45GHz).
Could you please help me in specifying what parameters used from an RFID reader to measure the distance between active tags and RFID reader, and how to obtain these parameters? another issue is how to find the RSSI values from the Reader.
