alternatives for microburn

can anyone suggest an alternative for the microburn software ? , is there any alternative app possible for that ?
 

Possibly, it largely depends on your programming hardware. What programmer are you using?

Microburn is making a lot of headaches and the development of the same is discontinued .

It is actually a very good programmer although some newer devices are not supported. What problem do you have with it?

It you want the best PIC programmer at only slightly higher price than the 182 board, look at the PicKit 2 or PicKit 3 from Microchip.

when programming 18F devices like 18F4550 , the burner gives fuse error , if i burn with the fix hex utility provided with microburn , the firmware doesnt work .
 

'means' = your answer is in the other similar postings you made on the same subject.

You only need to use fixhex if the hex file ordering is swapped, using it on a normal file will make that file unusable.

What is the fuse error? Are you sure that the fuse information you are providing is valid for that device?

yes , the hex that is used in the fixhex produced a fuse error
fuse information is valid for that device , as per original firmware from microchip
 

Can you tell us what the fuses should be and what Microburn reads them back as. We might be able to see what's wrong from the difference between them.

Use/build PICKIT 2 (clone, of course), is a very good programmer.
 

Besides the PICkit 2 and PICkit 3 that has already been recommended.

You may want to keep an eye out on eBay for a genuine Microchip ICD 2, I have seen them sell for under $50.

Tried that but they taste TERRIBLE. Besides, the pins on the ZIF socket get stuck between your teeth.

@varunme, if you search the internet enugh you will find an unofficial version of microburn (version 26) which can program many more devices but it does need a new PIC on the 182 board itself.

yes , another programming interface , please dont buy that , no support and the development of the software and the support are discontinued by that people
 
I still have my Kitsrus & microburn, I've adapted it so I can program 10F2xx PICs which I use a lot of. For everything else I use either a genuine PicKit 2 or a Chinese clone, often both together as many of my projects use more than one PIC and they need programming in circuit. I find it quicker to use two PicKits than to swap one from one device to another, especially when a firmware upgrade requires several PICs to be upgraded at the same time.

Yes, it is just another programmer for PICs but one of the better designed ones with a proper USB interface and on-board power regulators.
I believe the designer died several years ago and this is why no official updates have been released. Several people have since released their own versions of on-board PIC code, I can't remember the links but some searching should reveal them.

Sorry if I offended anyone wih my "taste TERRIBLE" joke, I noticed 21 experience points had been deducted just after I posted it.

yes , the kitrus thing is cheap though , can be used with a Pickit3 , hats off ur idea , the china made Pickit clone makes any difficulty for you ? , is it too different in quality than original , since I am interested in buying one

can we use a different interfacing software than the microburn , since it is using com port using FTDI chip ?

Thanks! Sure I will not. I already have PICKIT2 and MikroProg for PICs and planing to buy PICKIT3 for collection.
