How To Disable UPS No-load Shutdown ?

Hello everyone,

I have a Wep emerge 500VA PC ups which i usually used for my pc. But often I want it to charge my mobile using charger when mains power is not available. But the problem is, when the load is very low, the ups automatically turns off after a few seconds (from cold start). Do you have any ideas sothat i can tweak any parts to work it on no load.

Please give me some positive comments

Thanks..

Please explain me the working of No load shut down in UPS. Can I tweak this system by circuit changes?

But all of the circuits idea may be different (used in current sensing )so it is needed to your circuits

@thannara123,
Thanks for your comment. But can you please explain a sample circuit..is that related to main IC?

Another choice is,
just open the UPS(if guarantee period is over) and take the 12V supply from battery terminals.
Now, connect it to a 5V regulator say 7805 and connect it's output to a mobile charging point, with proper polarity. (some more modifications in charger circuit may be needed, say, a resistor in series ...any way, i think this method is better so that no need to switch on the UPS)

Any way,
wait for experts reply, because this is just my opinion.

For begin there is sense to look inside UPS. On main plate can be written what way to disconnect damned "green mode". So as made on my Ippon 800, it is necessary for this to bite off one resistor.

Dear Experts,

I also needed the same help. In my PROLiNK UPS, it will turn off after 40 sec with no load. Even with a normal bulb even it goes to off.
I have done this before with another UPS. What i have done, in the circuit it takes a sample from the out put & I change the value of that resistor.
But in this PROLiNK UPS, there are two samples taking from the out put. From Live & Neutral terminals.

So I done the resistor value change but no good. Those resistor values are 2 M Ohm each.

If you want i can send the photo also of the circuit board.

Pls help me to disable this no load cut-off.

It maybe an SMPS based UPS. Switching power supplies do not function properly without a minimum load, eg, problems in feedback loop, inductor, etc without minimum load. So, the UPS may turn itself off to protect itself.

Nalin74,
Some photos would help. Then, it can be better understood.

@Nalin74 ,
please post the images..it will help us for better understanding the circuit elements you mentioned.

OK, sure i will get some photos & post here. But this UPS not a Switch mode. It's a transformer type but with two connections. I normally seen in the T/F there were 3 connections, and 2 for the MOSFET's & one for TAP ( + ) Battery.
Any way better to see the photos.

Here are the photos. In one I have showed the out put connections & from it getting a sample with two resistors. A & B
These both values is about 1.2 M Ohm for one out put. I have disconnected the path & tried with various values, but none of them cannot hold the out put.
Within 2 sec UPS goes off & RED LED with BEEP coming.
I think this is the point for no load sampling. But there is another TAP from the out put. I have showed in the other photo. That is a Ferrite T/F & getting some portion of voltage & doing something. see the X point. I think that is for the overload detection may be.
Because this UPS has a function of both Normal & UPS modes overload protection.

Hello Nalin74
it is a good hacking. I actually looking for the same " To disable UPS Auto Turnoff" as for Networking routers . As you have mentioned success on this can you please explain how you fix the Issue. I m hacking into my UPS circuit n doing the research...I will update you about my work.

Thanks You.

yeah i know that could be done, but how will be knowing what's the level of the battery, whatif it drains completely and we even dont get notified, wont it be dangerous, anyways, its good for use for only for limited period of time.. you say..

Re: How To Disable UPS No-load Shutdown ?

i also encounter similar problem with yours, a 600VA UPS a line interactive brand new, and was connected to a PC ( i7 processor) with 45 watts during on battery mode 40sec on battery mode the UPS will shutdown it self. As per manufacturer said, this is a feature called "Econo Mode" and this feature can't be disable. It said if the UPS detect a load 20% or less the UPS will shutdown to protect the battery life. So what we did was we connect 3 PC with i7 processor to a single 600VA UPS and its working..back time 20mins.

@nalin 74... thanks for this... but i realy need the images.. please post them.
