Hi,

I am looking for a proximity sensor with a sensing distance of around 2 to 3 feet. I saw in one of the posts regarding and IR sensor, but I dont want to use it for remote control purposes.

Your help is greatly appreciated..

Proximity sensor do not come with that range.. only IR can be used... inductive or capacitive proximity sensors are of distance 1 to 4mm max.. and used for specific purpose.

I have some capacitive proxys with 100mm range, still no good to you though is it.
I remember a project in wireless world which was a living thing detector and had a range of a few feet, what is it you want to detect people or objects.
If you want to detect objects maybe a microwave radar type detector is the way to go.

@ ckshivaram:
can we program the output of capacitive sensors with a MicroController?
are they available as Tx-Rx pair??? I wud b glad to know if there are any, that wud opearte at the range upto 5 mm

how much do they cost?
