Need an obselecence-proof PWM controller

Hello,



We wish to use UCC28C41D in our product.

My Manager has asked for me to use a controller which is good, cheap, consumes low operating power, and will not go obselete.

-therefore, i chose the UCC28C41D.

-Though please may i ask, relatively speaking, what are the chances of UCC28C41D ever going obselete?.......and if it were to go obselete, would there be many equivalent chips on the market that we could use instead?

We are designing a 40V to 5V (2W) step-down converter, and have decided to use a SEPIC with UCC28C41D....

we need it to have skip-cycle in light load , so we did that with an external comparator connected to the COMP pin as in the book "Switch mode power supplies" by Christophe Basso.

We also needed the very low operating current as in the UCC28C41D....and the 50% max duty is good.

(We also use the similar UCC28C40D in our offline PSU)
 

There is no such thing as obsolescence-proof. But a good
seond-best is to pick a device which has multiple vendor
sources, so at least you have a spare. "No sole-source
components" is always the best starting position to take.

Hi,
I think although what you selected is a good choice and an enhanced version of UC3842, UC3842 may be a better solution, as it is more popular and more likely to be available for a long time at a cheaper rate.

malheuresement we cannot use uc3842 as it draws too much operating current.

i wish there was a list of multiple vendor pwm controllers but i suppose vendors dont colaborate.?
