I'm curious about the business model of your proposed company.

R u looking to market some product or IP or is it going to be a services model, where you will be bidding for projects?

Hi all,

Thanks to all for your wishes, interest in my topic and also to those who made good sugestions as well as coments,

I have good concept on memory controllers, Bus protocals and on networking.

presently market is focused on multimedia applications, hence my focus will be on these applications.

I want to implement using only freely available tools.

Thanks to all

First .. you need to have a network of connections .. in your network, you need to have more than one expected customer .. don't start a project without an expected customer ..

Second .. If you don't have money , you need to arrange for a fund .. wethere it comes from government, venture capitalist .. or whatever .. u just need to arrange for that ..

Third .. you need to have a critical mass .. the people who will work with u to startup this company .. you need to chose them carefully .. if your customer is in a hurry waiting for a product, then u need to hire only SENIORs .. if not, you can start with a mix of seniors and juniors ..

Fourth .. you need to think of your logistics and resources .. define precisely your design flow .. have a complete list of the needed tools and when in the flow you will need to use them .. how will u get them .. and for how long are they going to be used ..

Fifth .. take the risk .. but keep it educated ..

Sixth .. Best of luck :) .. you are on the road .. :D

thts gud move .. all de best !

I am pursuing mtech vlsi ! n i am luking for JOB in startup company !

Hello everyone,

starting a vlsi company would be very costly....if you have that much money...or any resources....then go ahead :)

if not one can start with FPGA, which can be done with free tools.......i wonder if asic chip can be made by free tools....

these r only my views......others may have different......

Thanks,
Prasad

Hi Shweta,
Its really good idea, I wish you all the best.
My sugestions are first start with FPGA designs, For these there are freely available tools. In this process you can start first service based company.
But how you are going to bring clients for your startup, do you have any IP's on your name. for startup IP's are most important.

Thanks and regards

Hi shweta,

Above given feedback are correct.. but one more idea I would like to give you is why dont u tie up with some marketing company for just promoting your activity at initial stage .... u will get the ideas about market and competitors......
I really know some big MNCs as well who does the same to promote there activity ....
U just tell them how u are going to do they will just charge u on case to case bases some % of ur project Money ...... and u will be benifitted because u will get rid off with complex tendering process and all....these companies are mainly promoting products ( VLSI based ) in the market so they have good market network...
I am working in such of the one EDA company in first level of managment so I wanted to share my exp. with you

Let me know if u need any further help

With Regards,

Re: vlsi startup

I would cordially congratulate on the thought of starting the own company and is really appreciable. Very few comes up with the entrepreneurial ambitions.

Swetha/Aswini,

Before starting the company, make sure you have the right business models. 90% fails at this point. Revenue generation should not be main criterion till you establish yourself in the market.

Any one can become a competitor to big MNc's if you have the right product. IP's are the ones which gets decided on the product success. First point would be having the soft block business model. liquid IP's which can be targets on any technological nodes with the better speed, performance. Many opensource compilers are available for your research on this aspect.

If your interest is on the specific product/Full chip, lots of infrastructure is required to make your product, foundry worthy chip is very costly to implement. I heard IIT, Bombay has small foundry for higher technological nodes which can help you manufacture your chip and there by real time testing, try contacting them and share your interest, they can be real help.

I agree completely that multimedia arena has huge market success, for that you need to have architecture knowledge. If you come up with that kind of knowledge, you can go ahead.

Remember, market depends upon first come basis. So you better be fast and sophisticated. Big players fails in competition, and those who have the good number of SOC's wins.

EDA is an other area where, all big player are on constant watching for the new ideas. You can be seller of your ideas.

Ping me or let me know, I can give share you my personnel experiences. I have it since a year now. So far going good.

Regards
Lohi
