What's the application of HDLC and SDLC in satellite communications?

Guys, what are HDLC and SDLC, what's their
application especially in satellite communications,
I heard they are used as a type of multiplexing, yes?
Please elaborate on this issue more in detail.

HDLC (High Level Data link Control)
SDLC (synchornous Data Link control)

SDLC protocol was developed by IBM and then ISO modified it to become HDLC, they use bit stuffing for data transparancy...!
