a question about viterbi decoder

hi,
i have a problem regarding viterbi decoding. In the compare and select operation, if both the state metric are same , in that case what path history should i store. I mean, wheather i shold store 0 or 1 as path history for that state.
If anybody have any idea, please help me .

Hi,

it doesn't affect the result while u pick up either one to store.
 

Hi ,
In compare and select u set
(a<= b)? "0" : "1"
and during traceback choose best state as state having minimum value.
But at the start of traceback(while choosing best state),if two states are having
same value,then something is wrong.

Both paths are equally likely. No future information can change that.
The selection among the two can be arbirtrary, or at random.
