Hai

I have to do a control box of a Dental Xray system called RVG type.

The technical people asked me to energise the X ray tube for 20millisecond to 2000milliseconds with AC line! (Depending on the teeth to be examined)

Is it meaning full or practical to switch a AC line for 20milliseconds?

or the technical people misinterpreted something?

or I misunderstood the operation of the device ?

please
Thanks

Hi

In order to generate X-RAY you will need a high voltage generator ! 20kV or more

Porbebly the AC line connected to high voltage booster - all you need to do is to connect the inverter to AC line for the Time selected

You must teak caution since X-RAY are very denger to halt - so if you are not familiar with caution procedure don't play with it

All the best

What they probably want you to do is have a semiconductor switch on the mains side of the 20 kV supply and turn it on for a selectble integer number of mains cycles.

Thanks for the reply and information.

The unit has got built in voltage booster and my controll unit have to provide only the triggering signal for a specified time.

but my problem is that they want me to trigger the AC line for a very small duration of some 20 to 2000 millisecond depending on the teeth to be scanned.

Can we trigger the ac line for some 20millisecond with a triac ?

20millisecond is only the period of my AC wave form.

Thanks \

Hi

Yes ,You can do it with a zero - cross detector conected to the main line

Search google for "zero-cross detector circuit" for schematic diagram

this way you will be in sync with the AC power line when you trigger your circuit

You can also use a triac as a switch - I can advice you to use an AC Solid State Relay insted.

this device are a combinetion of triac + zerocross detector + opto-cupler

And remember to be on the safe side

All the best
