Low Vs high Frequency Pulse measurement

measure high frequency pulse difference in time

What is the fundamental difference between the microcontroller programs for high and low frequency pulse measurement ?I have come across projects which measure only low frequencies like heart-beat etc , what is the reason that they can't measure high frequencies say 20,000 rpm?
 

Hi

In order to measure high frequency the Ucontroller must run at a speed 10 times faser then the measured frequency if you are not using an internal counter to measure the input frequency

But even for an internal counter you must run at least 5 time faster and to write your program in assembly language

Other waise the controller is unable to do the calculation due to slow processing time
