L4981 Boost PFC diode snubber circuit with zener diode added?

Stops the boost diode anode going more than 48V below gnd - due to action of turn on passive snubber ...

i.e. stops the boost diode from blowing up ...

Thanks yes, but wouldnt D5 on its own stop it from blowing up?
ie, D5 could carry the L2 current after Q1,2 switch OFF, D6 neednt be there.
I can see D6 does no particular harm.
Perhaps its just to make L3 discharge quicker?
