Differences between SPI and USART in synchronous mode

Hi,
I want to know the differences in SPI and USART in synchronous mode communication? I know that the usart define only the hardware but in transferring and receiving it means both of them show the same task.
 

UART can be similar to SPI if you will not use start, stop and parity bits in synchronous mode. But by default uart frame takes 10 bits normaly. And SPI is much faster for sure.

In some text as I read they mention that USART in synchronous mode removes start and stop bits
 

Synchronous mode is just allows you to use external clock source. Nothing more. How that realized on your corresponding mcu is another question.
