Hello,
I am required to carry out an environment test in a temperature test chamber from -10 to 80 deg celcius. When in cooling mode the compressor makes the whole chamber to vibrate. My PCB and sensor setup is sensitive to these small vibrations. I thought about using a sponge for padding but...
Hello,
Many of the active PFC IC datasheets show a DM Capacitor (often indicated by C_in/C_filter) following the bridge rectifier to filter out the high frequency noise. How is this capacitor value to be selected? And what will happen if one goes for a larger value of Cin? (usually small values...
Hello
High di/dt loop acts as a loop antenna and is a source of radiated EMI.
One should not overlook the high dv/dt nodes in the converter topology. Parasitic capacitive coupling (like heat sink capacitance) is a major source of common mode conducted EMI. For a half bridge topology the max...
Hello,
Yes this is true. The current direction alternates in the primary winding in the case of the half bridge allowing us to use the blocking cap technique to avoid flux walking.
I will think about the second question and let you know. However at first instance I believe that voltage mode...
Re: switch regulator output voltage
To add to the discussion, you also need to ensure that the L1 choke that the datasheet recommends does not saturate for the new output voltage setting.
My calculations show that there is a small increase in inductor peak current with 5V output compared to the...
Hello mtwleg,
Thank You for your reply.
I have removed the frontend emi filter, rectifier and passive PFC components from the PC SMPS. I wish to use the SMPS as a load to study the active PFC's output voltage and input current control loop transient response. The PC SMPS, I believe, presents...
Hello Sir,
How is this accomplished from a circuit point of view? I have seen lab signal generators fail after an accidental output short and wish to implement an add on short circuit protection feature to prevent future failures.
Regards
Hello,
I have designed a 250W boost active PFC with an output voltage of 400V. Is it safe to drive a standard 250W PC SMPS as a test load? Are the SMPS switches rated for this regulated Vin of 400V? The SMPS spec states an ac input of 120/230 Vac which transforms to a max 325V dc after...
Hello,
This is an interesting point, may qualify as the topic for a new post to help look for an answer? I have come across examples with multiple outputs though.
Regards :)
Isn't the 1uF capacitor a blocking cap put there to avoid flux walking? It is required to be of a non polarized type as it has to carry bidirectional current. Its rating should be specified as an example 1uF/250Vac.
For example checkout cap C102 in this application note
Regards :)
I believe that you won't face any problem if you use this power adapter.
I had a Samsung LCD monitor with a defective adapter. The manual stated a 14V/3A power adapter. I used a 12V/4A spec SMPS output as the power source and it worked fine. At a lower input voltage the monitor will usually draw...
