Switch fluorescent tube lights with MC3041 / BT136

I'm not finding that a helpful comment. Obviously I have tried to read the rest of the datasheet for the MOC3041, and the datasheet for the triac, but I am not sure what the dependencies are.

Switch fluorescent tube lights with MC3041 / BT136

I want to switch my basement lights (2x40W tubes @ 110V) and have selected a MOC3041 optocoupled triac driver and BT136 sensitive gate triac. The schematic I am looking at is Figure 13 on https://www.futurlec.com/LED/MOC3041.shtml. It specifies 360R resistor in series with the load and 330R...

    Stripboard I2C Logic Level Converter

A very easy logic level converter to translate I2C signals from, say, a 5 V Arduino to a 3.3 V slave device. Blog post

    Mystery foot switch LED

I made a HF pedal for my welder with an illuminated footswitch. I wired it up by trial and error, and it sort of works, but I don't know why! The foot switch makes a circuit for a secondary output primary coil which energizes a spark gap oscillator that generates high frequency bursts of high...

    Flickering LED bar candle

The project was a (prize winning) entry for the Dangerous Prototypes 7400 competition. I think it is fun to be able to flicker 10 LEDs with a single logic chip. Of course there are lots of other ways to do this sort of thing.

    Flickering LED bar candle

I think there is a place for this. A simple timer circuit blinks only 1 LED and does not give a pseudo random effect. Microcontroller projects involve programming.

    Etch your own Arduino PCBs

I etched a couple of single-sided Arduino PCBs using toner transfer. They came out fine but I would prefer a layout with less drilling. Link: https://smokedprojects.blogspot.com/2012/12/home-made-arduinos.html

    Stovetop Toner Transfer

I have been having good results with a new toner transfer technique. Put a heavy hotplate on the stove and dial in a temperature of 175 °C using a thermocouple. Bond the toner image to the copper clad board by placing them print side down onto the hotplate between two sheets of paper and...

7400 Logic RNG / Cat Toy

There's an error on the schematic. The hex inverter is 74HC04 not 74HC14.

7400 Logic RNG / Cat Toy

I made a true random number generator from a 74HC595 shift register and a 74HC04 hex inverter. With the addition of a 4538 precision monostable and a few passive components, I had a randomly twirling laser cat toy...

    Welder SCR heat controller issues

There are a few tricks to phase angle control that are specifically discussed in this document: https://www.st.com/internet/com/TECHNICAL_RESOURCES/TECHNICAL_LITERATURE/APPLICATION_NOTE/CD00003856.pdf Figure 11 shows an application to an arc welder transformer. A microcontroller can also be...
