I couldn't find out any demo or evaluation tool in Mentor Graphics website.
so, what is the best way to learn the basics, without buying a licensed one.

I too was in search of that for the past 2 years.
from designers comment, some says it is not worth. bcz no companys are looking for CID certified designers in their profile...

orcad copper pour isolation
In OrCAD 10.5 to disable thermal isolation for individual pads and for the copper pour as a whole, select the vias from the spreadshet, go to prpperties/edit padstack, enable the option Flood planes/pours.

how to build a pad layout
hock,
in a MAX file in layout plus,
go to padstack spread sheet, select the via (via1/via2/via3...), edit the properties eg: drill size
In the lib manager while creating a footprint,
select the pin, go to padstack spread sheet, ( the selected pin will be highlighted...
