yes milind .you are right.i am giving these signals to T0 (p3.4)pin of microcontroller.so that i can count the pulses in 1 second and distinguish between two signals.can u tell me the how to do this.and please tell me code in c also,if u can.
is there any other way also to do this?

actually i want to distinguish between two switches pressed.first switch will make 555 timer (generating 36 khz )on for 0.5 seconds.second switch will make same 555 timer to on for 0.75 seconds.so how can i use my 8051 to distinguish which switch is pressed

i am using lpc2138.i want to calculate number of high pulses in a 36 khz signal with duty cycle=50%.actually i want to distinguish two signals having 36khz frequency with duty cycles of 50% and 75% respectively.how can i do that?
sorry nataraj,,,ia m little late in this thread..,,,as alex say that output from transistor will be 4.3 v which is not capable of driving relay...so u can use a uln 2803 between transistor and relay.give ur microcontroller output to uln2803 which will in turn drive your relay
