    ADC reference Voltage

Just be aware that 4-20mA through a 250ohm resistor gives 1-5V not 0-5V Mike

Thanks FvM, so without some sort of core there will not be any induced voltage.

    Detecting change ic AC current

Detecting change in AC current Hi, I have a PIR motion detector mounted in the garden. At night when it detects movement it switches on a 500W (220V) flood light hopefully to deter intruders. I have no way of knowing when the light is activated so I thought if I could detect the change in...

Confused about max current through a Zener diode

Hi, I want to drop 3.9V in a circuit with a load drawing 1A. I thought I could just put in a 3.9V 5W Zener. When I look at the spec for 1N5335 it states IZM = 1.2A but also states IZT is 320mA which is the maximum useable current? - Mike

    Semiconductor Life Expectancy

Hi, I am showing my age here but I have some components, transistors, diodes, IC's that have never been used but are +/- 20 years old. Do You think they are still useable or is it dustbin time? Regards, Mike

    Heatsink Thermal Resistance Calculation

Hi, I have some Aluminium flat bar that I would like to use as a heatsink. Is there a way to calculate the Thermal Resistance (deg C / W) based on surface area or volume? Regards, Mike.

    [SOLVED] A theoretical regulator question.

Grishin states that the battery voltage can drop to 5V so I asume it is not that critical

    [SOLVED] A theoretical regulator question.

The batteries you propose using would suggest that the current flow will be very low so I would think the IN4148 would be fine. Try it with a dummy load to determine the actual voltage drop. Regards

    [SOLVED] A theoretical regulator question.

What about putting a diode in series with the load that will drop about 0.6V
