if the rooms are different location,it is good to use RS485 protocol,it only use 2 wires.
i have already tested with MODBUS protocol using AT89C51 as master and AT89C2051 as slave.
so the wiring complications are avoided.
i think optical fiber can be used instead of flex sensor,using micro bending property.
i am doing project based on micro bending of optical fiber using a led & ldr.

we are also faced the same problem with IGBT, when designing a low power induction heating system.
at last we found the problem with zero voltage switching.
we found the problem only after analyzing the waveform using CRO.
this is all about the input control.

using lcd & 3 button,he can control all the fans.
but the problem is controlling the 24 outputs using 28 pin mcu.
i am using some ladder like programming software for programming PIC.
it is very simple to program ,if you have plc programming logic.
although, it only support some common pic uc,it isworthfull,and it is fully working.
