plot phase of E-field in HFSS

Came across this thread because I am also interested in plotting phase of Efield (in the z-direction in particular) and was wondering what the best way was to go about it. PlanarMetamaterials response is helpful and I tried this, but it didn't give a reasonable result in a 2d plot of this value...

HFSS manual on Master slave boundary conditions???

You do not need separate air boxes. They both can be applied to the same airbox or you can draw a rectangular sheet on both sides and apply them to two seperate sheets. I have done this a lot and it works very well. It can be tricky to select the faces sometimes in the rendered 3D view of...

HFSS to model microstrip patch antenna FOR Receiving radiation.

Hey Daniel, I got stuck on another project and didn't work on this for a while, but have just returned to this issue. At the moment I have mostly solved my issue, except I think it still doesn't work great because one of the radiation boundaries is too close to the patch antenna. Basically...

moving objects by Parametric in HFSS

Is it possible in HFSS to animate a 3d plot showing fields where two structural variables are changing at the same time?

HFSS Incident Plane Wave and source scaling factor

Incident wave is setup in excitations (right click to assign, then go to incident wave and you can select several different types). The thread is about using some sort of external far-field excitation to excite an antenna and use a port to absorb the radiation, I think you could probably look...

HFSS. Plot Near field on 2D surface

I have never used the "Near field Setup", so I am not sure how that even works. It might be that you don't want to actually use that setup. If I understand you correctly, you just want to plot the e-field in a plane above the surface resulting from "scattered" field right? If you used a plane...

how to choose optimal length and width of microstrip lines in a patch antenna array

Could you show a schematic of what you want to do? You could just do a parametric sweep in HFSS to optimize the design.

    simulate Microstrip line by HFSS

I think what you want to do is right click on setup1, then select "properties". On the first tab, UNcheck "solve ports only". I believe this will allow for s-parameter calculation, but I'm not totally sure and can't explain why that even makes sense...

HFSS to model microstrip patch antenna FOR Receiving radiation.

Hey Hadi-Alik, Thanks for your response! You guys seem to know a lot more than me about this stuff, I just pretend to be an electrical engineer! I think I will stick with the wave port since I don't know the impedance of my line at all. So to check the excited modes you mean to look at the...

HFSS to model microstrip patch antenna FOR Receiving radiation.

Hey Newbie_ece, Thanks for your response. I just need something to terminate the micostrip line to absorb the waves that travel down the transmission line (because I don't want any surface waves to reflect off the boundary where it ends). I have an incident plane wave as my source and ONLY...

HFSS to model microstrip patch antenna FOR Receiving radiation.

Hello, I have a simple question. I am modeling a microstrip patch antenna as a receiving antenna where the microstrip is terminated by a wave port to "receive" any propogating waves from the patch, which is excited by a plane wave. My question is simply: Do I need to define an integration...

use of receive antenna in HFSS simulation model and radiation box

I am trying to figure this out too. Someone please post an example, it would be very helpful!

Spatial Scattering Parameters of Volume Loss Density in HFSS

PlanarMetamaterials, Thanks for your help, really appreciate it! I just made a stupid mistake..... The geometry is in microns so it should be 1.25x10-10m2 and a few rounding errors skew it a little, but it now gives the expected results. I guess it's negative because the wave is...

Spatial Scattering Parameters of Volume Loss Density in HFSS

Hi PlanarMetamaterials, Thanks for your quick reply! I think I managed to get it to solve (sort of), but now it is giving an answer that doesn't seem to make sense. I am copying "Vector_RealPoynting" to the stack, then the interface in the geometry between the pml and airbox, then selecting...

Spatial Scattering Parameters of Volume Loss Density in HFSS

I have a similar simulation going on (plane wave excitaiton, and want to get the incident power going into the simulation and scattered off). I was trying to integrate the poynting vector at a boundary between a Pml and airbox where I have a plane wave excitation, but it doesn't seem to work...
