i'd like to know which is the good development tool to start on with analog IC designing, like i know theoretically how current mirrors and amplifiers work but i've never simulated or designed them. also suggest a book for learning this tools.

I'm planning to do masters in analog vlsi/microelectronics this fall 2012. however I've 5 months of free time as i'm not working currently, so i would like to know is there any certification course or design tools which I should get familiar with. which could be helpful post studies.
