It seems that the setting for "Display strings as rotated" was checked for some reason in newer versions. Maybe it's a new feature.
Can't say I've seen this behavior, but you can change defaults for almost everything editable in new document defaults. Perhaps your settings file got corrupted at...

I'm talking about the Eagle software, because of the tCream layer, so I didn't mentioned the software name.
Is there a way needn't to create a new component without that layer, based on the old component?
