centroid data
Hi,
does anyone know from where I could find "standard" formats for different pick&place machines so I could prepare scripts to generate these automatically in the future. Any link, example, etc is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
how to calculate heat dissipation
well, calculating heat dissipation is one way to go. Measuring another way. If you have a complex board and it will go into production, you need to measure many. mesure the worst case. analyze the statistics. And then you'll get the picture.
I have always tried...
six layer stackup
NAILS - the stackup depends on many things. Sometimes power distribution is an issue. If you cannot place decoupling capacitors near the chips. If you have EMC issues, etc. In such a case it is often needed to place the VCC and GND layers as close to each other as possible...
CAREER DECESION
do not worry too much. If you are able to learn one well, the other one is not that difficult. I've tried to do both, but ended up as a HW and PCB designer. Code, even HW, is not for me. Some like to write, others like to draw. Both have to document.
If this is not too late...
We have used FTDIchip.com products in small projects. FT245 was the type, if I remember right. You can download free drivers and it is easy to communicate to from any MCU/MPU or FPGA/CPLD. These chips also have a parallel interface, if you are not married to the idea of using 232.
