Are there any books, FAQ, etc. on this topic?
I would like to build some simple device to control lights. Nothing fancy - may be some inputs from detectors.
But I am a bit confused about all these PIC, AVR, 8051, etc...
I would like something cheap, easy to program...

I am trying to enable DV-IN on a Sony DCR-TRV 125se camcorder, using
the schematichs from
http://www.sps.volyne.cz/set1394/anin/adapter.html
(left one)
However, when I connect it to the LPT port, it does not work :( The cable used to work with another computer (back in '98 ), but it does...
There are non-transformer AC->DC adaptors, but I dont see them much around...
Why every mobile/etc. uses charger with a transformer inside? just a couple of resistors +diodes would not be enough?
