Many authors in today’s publishing environment want to make their research freely available to all reader communities.
Fully open access journals
IEEE is pleased to introduce several new fully open access journals. These journals are fully open access, dedicated to a specific subject area, contain author-pays articles, and delivered online only.
The first fully open access journal, IEEE Photonics Journal, was launched on 1 July 2012 by the IEEE Photonics Society. The current editor-in-chief is Carmen Menoni, IEEE Fellow and professor at Colorado State University, USA. The second fully open access journal was launched on 24 August 2012 by the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society and is entitled IEEE Journal of Translational Engineering in Health and Medicine. The editor-in-chief is Cliff Dacso, IEEE Senior Member and professor at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, USA.
Two other journals have been approved and are in development: IEEE Journal of the Electron Devices Society produced by the IEEE Electron Devices Society, and IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computing produced by the IEEE Computer Society. Additional open access offerings are also under consideration.
