In this video, someone made an energy harvesting circuit for cell phone radiation,

According to my understanding, an energy harvesting device will absorb the radiation and store it in a capacitor or power something, when it absorbs radiation, wouldn't the signal be nonexistent? Why is that, in this video, the cell phone's signal is absorbed but still the cell phone receives the signal? Is it that, even after absorbing, the signal still retains enough power to allow an intelligible call?

Hi,

It's the same thing like:
* why one still can see even if there is a photovoltaic cell nearby
* why one still can feel the wind iven uf there is a windmill nearby
* or similar: why the water still flows after a hydroelectric plant

Only a tiny part of the radiated energy will be harvested...the other part still is available.

Klaus

And trust me - that is NOT a power harvesting circuit. Consider that each of the component legs alone is longer than the antenna should be and NONE of those components are suitable for RF and the proto-board construction is completely unsuitable. It is quite likely the meter would give the same reading if the whole thing was removed.

When I saw that video, what came to mind was a dismantled car engine. I pictured it as screws, some pistons, spark plugs, crank shaft, gears and a can of oil, all neatly laid out side by side on a worktop and somebody claiming it is doing 50Km/hour. You have to put the right bits together in the right order for it to work.

Brian.

Even -if- the circuit harvested energy, it only has what
impinges on its "antenna". Unless your phone occupies
the same and only the same space, there is signal for
the phone.

The antenna is not some sort of RF vacuum cleaner.
Just a wastebasket.

What can I do to make a device to completely absorb the signals?

Wrap it in tin-foil - perhaps from the same role as you use for a hat!
(Sarcasm somewhat intended.)
A Faraday cage will keep signals out and, but equivalence, keep signals in. However what is the point? What is the problem that you are trying to solve by completely absorbing the mobile phone (as we call them here) signals?

Hi,

What can I do to make a device to completely absorb the signals?

You have a candle in a room. How can you make the room completely dark?
For sure not if you place some photovoltaic cell (which absorbs light) somewhere in the room.
Also not if you place a "optimal black" piece of something in the room.

I think placing a "black hole" close to the candle is not practicable. I don't know anything comparable for electromagnetic waves.

So AussieSusan is correct. Or "switch off" the candle.

There are thousands or millions of You Tube electronics videos like that from students in India. They do not know the basics of electronics. They post the videos because You Tube pays them for each viewer who sees the ads.

An alternative (which may not make you any
friends in the apartment complex) is to jam the
TX and RX frequencies to the point that data
cannot be reliably sent or extracted.

Of course that jamming is detectable, illegal
and could set you on a new career path.

Ridiculous..
Buy a cheap DMM and activate a Cell Phone just besides to it and see what will happen ..
2W RF Power will of course create a EM Force around and this may be amplified but this doesn't supply current..
Electrical Engineering nowadays have become "kid garden"..

btw - Do not believe is these random YouTube vdos's, unless you have knowledge regarding the uploaders' credibility. Most are fake, they are just posted for likes n shares!
Update - Oh I see AudioGuru has already mentioned about it above!

Assuming this whole thread is not a troll - what are you trying to achieve?
I suspect this may be an 'X-Y' problem (https://xyproblem.info/) so what is the problem you are trying to solve that makes you think absorbing all of the RF from a mobile phone is the solution?

What reason do you think I'm a troll? Usually the people calling others trolls are themselves trolls. I'm asking very simple questions, how is that trolling?

Hi,

Nobody accused you to be a troll. Read correctly.

But there are trolls - that upload fake videos. For specialists it's obvious that those "inventions" can't work the way they pretend.

AussieSusan asked if the thread is a troll thread. I think she meant I was trolling, and a person trolling is called a troll.
