Why does the charge distribution is calculated on the surface of the antenna? I think the current distribution is used for calulating the antenna parameter.

usually high conductivity materials used for the antenna construction. hence current is confined to surface and skin depth is neglected. using the calculated current distribution you can find E and H fields
