Why do we do time analysis prior to CTS and not Holdtime ?

Hi Everyone,

I am using SOC Encounter.

My question is why do we do only setup time analyis and optimization prior to CTS and not Holdtime analysis.

Hi Ikon,

That's because before CTS, you use Wire Load Model for net delay calculation, which is not accurate, so it's no need to fix the hold time.

Hi, because after cts the clock timing is real and modify hold time violation
make sense!

Hi Ikon,

Yes. You do need to check both setup and hold post CTS. You should also check setup

and hold post place, post routing.

beacuse setup timing issue can't be repaired during layout,

and hold time may do not exist after layout, wireing delay

can repair hold time issue.
