ADC : Analog-to-Digital Convertor
DAC : Digital-to-Analog Convertor
A DSP, well, processes digital signals. And if your signal is analog in nature, you will have to convert them into digital signals using an ADC. After processing, if the output is used to drive an actuator, you reconvert your DSP output into analog signals using a DAC.

DSP is not IMPORTANT to ADC .IS THE OTHER WAY AROUND
ADC is important to DSP ..DSP is where the processing takes place .ADC is a component of such PROCESSING ..ADC allows to obtain the data to be further processed.
1. All ADCs have quantisation noise. DSP is the backend method to remedy this by introducing noise-shaping, decimation etc.
2. DSP chip technology is advancing in its field independently from ADCs, thus DSP only regards ADC when it comes to putting them together in design. DSP is important to ADC when ADC designers have to check out what they kind of ADCs they need to design to meet the increasing processing power of DSP. One good example is Software-Defined Radio where many things are migrating to the digital domain leaving only ADC as one of the few remaining components. DSP will become important for ADC.
