the fab design kit

Hi,

I just wanted to rank according to your opinions, which design kit is popular in design, and to have a background on which is better than which..

I see that acian fabs took the greatest part in the market, however, I prefer the European AMS design kit, and find it more professional than the others..

Kindly give me your opinion and experience ..

Cheers :)
Regards,

Well, 3 votes out of 30 viewers is not bad (10%)!

But i wonder, why don't ppl like to participate???!!!!

Instead of making a poll:

Is there an interesst in having a fab-independend designkit from a third vendor tested on many process nodes and processes and many design applications?

Is that the responsibility of the big tool providers?

Should it be used as marketing for the tool? Or should you pay for it separate?

Is that a possible entry point for a different EDA landscape which does not center around the tools but the desingkit?

What is the status of OpenKit initiative?

@rfsystem
Can you throw some more light on OpenKit initiative? Sounds interesting...

I use TSMC-clone but I don't like it, so I'd prefer something else.
But our company use this foundry.
How should I vote?

Can anybody give more information on this?

i vote for tsmc, their kits are generally complete. i have faced hell lot of problems with SMIC. ( yaa SMIC is bit less costly compared to TSMC )

I don't like Tsmc,they seems irresponsible for their client!

Added after 2 minutes:

XFAB is good

Q&A about the OpenKit initiative is best described here

h**p://www.eda.org/openkit/doc/OK_DOD_100103.pdf

To me it seems to be pretty dead. There is lack of resources and willing to start a second kit branch. Most fabless habe ther own generic abstractions built into there own designkits or used to apply procedures to the fabcentric kits.

@rfsystem

It is a great idea and an initiative. Its sad to find out that its dead.. :cry:

Hello, this is very interesting.

Is OPEN ACESS an similar idea about CAE that,
we can acess schematic / simulate ...
same database not only thru composor + ADE
but also other tools???

I am also interested to know specifically what's
the key points of tsmc PDK to be improved...

thanks much in advance,

I think AMS is the best in terms of documentation and Design Kit completeness. TSMC's kits are lousy; their pcells usually contain DRC errors!
