What is the transparent mode in SIM300 module?

Hi all,

I am using SIM300 GSM/GPRS module. I so new with this. I read the documentation and it says something on 'transparent mode'. what is actually transparent mode?
 

transparent mode

I think transparent mode is what it is called when the data is passed directly by the module with no processing.
