What is better for a digital designer: Cadence or Synopsis?

i think the synopsys is the best one to do the synthesis, and no other one can replace it.
another magma has been on the market, it is very powerful on layout design.

Typically, it is decided by the manager/budget/experience, if you are free to pick up, you should choose the right tool for each stage. Generally speaking, for logic synthesis, synopsys beats cadence. as for the logic simulation, NC beats VCS on speed.

The tools from Synopsys have so many features.For example,after you bought Astro,if you want to do clock tree optimization,then you review the astro manual,called sysnopsys AE about how you to do this.Then they said "oh,sorry.You have to buy another feature named'CTO' for astro".

I don't think so.
I use nc-verilog(or vcs) for simulation,synplify for synthesis,ise6.2 for p&r.
I think synplicity is NO.1 in the area of FPGA synthesis.

Yes, magma have total solution. But the QoR of Synthesis is not good.

I think the front-end is Synopsys, and back-end is Cadence. and Synopsys is losing its field in front-end. The RTL Complier of Cadence will be used in the front-end. At the same time, the BGX is very powerful in the DataPath and LowerPower, DFT. But in Synopsys, they finish those task using three toolC,PT,TetraMax.

I've worked for 5 years with Synopsys for front-end
and Cadence for Back-end. I'm happy with that. This flow is very popular here.
