Hi,everyone~
I'm a beginner on cooperative communication, and I want to do some research on two-way relay(aka,bi-directional relay) network for my PhD thesis.
I've read some articles on this topic, but still i'm not quite sure what are the advantages of two-way relaying(compared to unidirectional relaying).
Here is a short introduction to the above two schemes:
1.Unidirectional relaying
For simplicity,we consider a half-duplex system model in which the signal is transmitted from the source to both relay and destination in the first time slot.Relay does some processing to the received signal and then transmits the processed data to destination in the second time slot.During this time, the source keeps silent. After that, the destination combines the signals from source and relay and then makes detection(thus a diversity gain is obtained).
2.Two-way relaying
The attached paper presents two schemes for two-way relay:
a)3-step scheme,
b)2-step scheme,
Again, all nodes operate in half-duplex mode. Please check the paper for detailed description.
Can i say the 3-step scheme is better than the 2-step scheme?Because there is no diversity gain for the latter, though it has one less step.
So here are my questions:
1.What exactly are the advantages of two-way relaying, except that it improves the system spectral efficiency as some articals say?
2.Is it meaningful to do some research on 'employing two-way relay in wireless sensor networks'?(more meaningful than cooperative diversity/VMIMO?)
3.Does anyone have a simple matlab code on two-way relay, like channel estimation,self-interference cancellation?
Or does any of you have good resources on this topic, like webpages,or papers.

I really need your help. Thanks in advance!
