Dear Friends,
I want to use MOSFET/IGBT as switch at 600V DC. In our current circuit, controlled AC(using TRIAC) is switched using RELAY and then it is rectified to get DC. but now we are having SMPS with DC output, which we want to switch. But as RELAY may give problem to HV DC in long term and also i dont think anybody supplies RELAY for HVDC.
So please suggest me the circuit, voltage at gate available is 8V now. But if any component needs higher, I can use more.
Also tell me if I can use HV SCR.........
Please help me.
Awaiting your expert comments !!!

I'm using a photovoltaic FET driver (LH1262CAC) to switch on/off an offline SMPS.

LH1262CAC

Code:
http://www.vishay.com/docs/83802/83802.pdf

I'm using one channel to drive a FET high side placed between the bridge rectifier and the bulk cap, and used the other channel to provide dynamic discharge for the FET. I built a pulsed current sourced to increase the drive output.

Typical rise fall times for the fet I'm using are tr = 750us tf= 10us. This is for this N-CH Mosfet FCD5N60.

I've been testing it for about a week so far so good. In my case it provides an additional bonus of limiting the inrush current. With a 10 ohm resistor used as inrush limiting I measured 19A inrush at 130VAC in; switched on at the top of the sine wave. The FET limits this to just over 11A and produces small losses once the flyback is up and running.

I'm not saying this is the ideal solution for you ,but it is a method for using a Mosfet as switch in response to your question.

If your switch is going to be blocking 600V,I'd be looking at 7 or 800V switches.

The total cost for me to build this was about five bucks $3 of that is the driver.

DC contactors for 600/750 V DC are generally available with switching current capacities from 5 up to 400 A, see e. g. Siemens 3TC44..3TC74 series. They would be first choice for any industrial application.

Dear Frnd ECHO47,
Thank u very much for ur reply.
Can u suggest me where I can get it in india, mumbai? tell me if and onlt if this info is easily available with u otherwise, i wud find it out...its not big task..
thank u vry much
warm regards

CPC1978J

800VDC 2.5Arms

The J datasheet is here

Code:
http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/196424/CLARE/CPC1978J.html

But the CPC1978 may also work for you thats the datasheet mouser shows. There sight is screwed.

$11 bucks at mouser

Mouser has an incorrect voltage rating among other errors in there description it is rated for 800V not the 350V in there description.

Here is a selection sheet for optimoss SSR's from clare.

Sorry jsps, I don't know about Kilovac's distributors. Try emailing them: info @ kilovac.com
