surface mount and fine pitch component PBC machines?

I seen these machines at my friends work , where they put SPOOLS ( looks like films spool but with surface mount resistors or capacitors) and the machine will pick up the different value resistors,capacitors,IC,transistors

What types of jobs position are theses? and what kind of machines do this? is it CNC?

Then they put the boards with components in a wave soldering machine or ?? some other types of soldering machines do you guys know the names of them when they put the PCB's in to get solder on them?
