What is soft check in physical verification of layout? Does this checks only substrate and power connection or something more?
Is this part of LVS check or must be a separate check?

This soft check is different from LVS. This soft check will check short between two or more signals through high resistive materials such as n-well and p-substrate.

Soft checks are performed to check the short between two or more nets through a highly resistive path, usually such shorts occur between power nets ( with different names ), connecting through a highly resistive substrate. While doing LVS, you have a option of enabling or disabling soft checks.
