Several doubts regarding Slave chain in RTL

Hi,

I have several doubts regarding slave chain and it's operation, please clarify:
1. why to use slave chain, we can use just some register bank? I read that chaining is time efficient, how?
2. there are several types of interfaces to connect these slaves, such as AHB, I2C.. how decide which one to use in design?
3. I heard term shadow rtl, shadow tests... please explain what are they and how to use them.
