Hi
I am making a PCB to connect differnt devices to a microcontroller.
In it I am keeping slots/ports for connecting devices with different protocols.
In the same, I want to keep a slot for RS-485 connection.
However, I don't which wires should I take out from microcontrollers and which are points that would be connected to the devices.
I heard that I will have to use 75176 for it, but I couldn't make out which pins of it are to be connected where?
Please Help

Hi,
Connect RS232 TX/RX signals through RS485 IC. For more info on RS485, visit Maxim Site.

Hello,

Since the RS485 is a differential line, it can only send/ receive data at a time (Half duplex). So when you use 75176 or MAX 485 you have to use a port pin to select the transmit/ receive pin in addition to Tx and Rx.

Connections:
Tx - D
RX - R
Selection Pin - Short the DE and RE pin and connect to any port pin

Hi,
U can use 75176 with ur microcontroller.Configuration is like that:
Tx pin of uC to D of 75176
Rx pin of uC to R of 75176
any port pin of uC to RE
any port pin of uC to DE

or

u can short RE and DE pin and connect it to one of any uC pin.

R u also using RS232 option?

yes, I am also keeping an option for connecting RS-232.
I have kept all its pins separate as it may be possible that I may have to connect 2 devices with RS-232 and RS-485 connections.
SO I am keeping both of them isolated
