seagate service manual

Hi,

Can anyone help me find a service manual for this hdd. I have p/n 98d145-303 and 98d145-520. Have a load of my data on the dead one, and cant afford the repair quotes im getting (its a pcb fault).

seagate barracuda 7200.9 repair

hi there
don't try to ask for HDD repair manual , this is not available , u can find a hdd with the same model and firmware that has a good working control board and swap boards hope there's no farther defects in the media of the HDD .
most professials use PC3000 and data extractor software to repair HDD and recover data from it.
good luck

service manual seagate barracuda

Hi Sawwa7,

Have you ever tried this board swapping with drives? My only concern is that being a high density drive the board contains calibration data on an eeprom for the specific drive. I have a similar hdd with the same firmware rev, but a slightly different pcb revision (closest i could find), and the reason i was looking for a spec sheet is to find out if they are compatible. I have the kit here to copy the eeprom data from one board to the other, but again i dont know if they both use the same layout for data (same firmware would suggest this, but have no concrete answer).

I have also been taking a look at the board, and the fault i have is a short between +12v and gnd which is tripping the pc psu. All i can find hooked to the 12v supply is a transient suppressor and 2 mosfets, am i missing something here? surely a 1/2 bridge isnt sufficient to run the hdd motor?

Also are there any hdd manufacturers who actually do release service manuals? maybe theres someone better to buy the replacement from.

fix eeprom hdd seagate barracuda

hi daedalus
well, i'm not a HDD repair specialist , but i've seen many discussion about things like that and hot swap controller board is working fine when both firmeware are identical .
as i can see u can also swap the flash chip from the old board to the new board and as far as i know there's no one of the hdd manfactures who sells that manuals , u may find substitution boards only taken from a good working drive , even the chips they sell are salvaged from a working boards :!:
no manafuctures sells chips or manuals and i think the most important thing for u now is to recover ur data from the damaged drive , u already had a bad controle board , so give it a try .. there's nothing to lose here if u swap the controle boards with identical firmware .
good luck and hope someone expert in that can help u much more .
Regards
