REDHAT 9.0 work with EDA tools

you can try mandrake9.0. it's work well with synop$ys($yn, pt, tm@x etc); c@dence(ldv4, ic5); ment0r(m0del$im, ic$t@tion, c@l)

FYI, the following tools have been successfully run on RH linux 8.0.

Cadence IC5.0
LDV5.0

Hspice 2002.2

...

Please add more items to the list. I only regret that Star-hspice-awaves is not available to Linux yet, so I can not fully integrate Hspice Interface to IC5.0. I used to run hspice instead of Spectre on Solaris. It is a pain in the ass that I can not use hspice to see the waveform instantly after simulation.

i belive most of synopsys tools do work on RH 8.0 as it has stated in their T-series releases. that is for version 2002.03, 2002.05, 2002.09 and 2002.12. of course the U-series which is newer version of the T-series will have no problem running in RH 8.0. U-series include 2003.03, 2003.06 and 2003.09

u can use $ynopsys cosm0s scope to view the waveform.

SUPPORTED PLATFORMS GUIDE For Synopsys U-Foundation

This is what I found on the Synopsys Official website.

SUPPORTED PLATFORMS GUIDE For Synopsys U-Foundation

Primary Platforms
=============

Sun Solaris 32-bit and 64-bit
----------------------------------
Baseline Operating System: Solaris 8
Recommended Solaris 8 Runtime Patches:
Solaris 8 Patch Cluster - version 7/29/02. Standard Sun patch cluster
107104-13: Conditional patch for OpenGL 1.1.2; recommended by Sun
108131-17: Conditional patch for OpenGL 1.2; recommended by Sun
108940-41: Motif 1.2.7 and 2.1.1 runtime library patch; COSSAP has demonstrated the need for the -37 or later version of this patch.
108921-14: Conditional patch for CDE 1.4 dtwm.
Binary Compatible Operating System: Solaris 9
Recommended Solaris 9 Runtime Patches: None

HP (PA-RISC 2.0) HP-UX 32-bit and 64-bit
--------------------------------------------------
Baseline Operating System: HP-UX 11.0
Recommended HP-UX 11.0 Runtime Patches:
HP Support Plus (Easy-Setup) March 2003 for HP-UX 11.0. This is HP's bundled patch mechanism for EDA systems that includes:
QPK1100 - March 2002
HWE1100 - March 2002
Binary Compatible Operating System: HP-UX 11.11
Recommended HP-UX 11.11 Runtime Patches:
Bundle11i - September 2002
HWE11i - September 2002
GoldBase11i - June 2002
GoldApps11i - June 2002

X86 Linux 32-bit
----------------------
Baseline Operating System: Red Hat Linux version 7.2 (2.4.7-10 Kernel)
Recommended Red Hat 7.2 Runtime Patches: None
Binary Compatible Operating Systems:
Red Hat Linux version 7.3 (2.4.18-3 Kernel)
Red Hat Linux version 8.0 (2.4.18-14 Kernel)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 2.1 (AS, ES, WS)
Special Patched Red Hat 7.1 (2.4.9-34lxset2 Kernel)

LINUX BINARY COMPATIBILITY: Red Hat does not guarantee version-to-version binary compatibility of its consumer Linux releases. Therefore, even though a Synopsys product has been successfully tested for binary compatibility, this is not a guarantee of compatibility. We highly advise staying with the recommended baseline Linux version.

BIG-MEM PATCH NOTE: The so-called Big-Mem patch is available for Red Hat Linux which will increase the 32-bit address space from the normal 2.8 GB to close to 3.8 GB. Synopsys products have been tested successfully on systems with this patch. Red Hat however will not guarantee that systems with this patch will be able to execute all applications. Our advice therefore is to install this patch at your own risk. If problems are encountered running Synopsys products on systems with the Big-Mem patch, return to using systems that do not have this patch installed.

L_D_V has lib trouble

I find other E_D_A Tools (including C_@_d_e_n_ce, S_Y_n_o_p_sys, M_e_n_tor) are OK on Redhat Linux 9.0.

Only L_D_V has lib trouble when running N_C_S_I_M.

tar: This does not look like a tar archive
tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Archive contains obsolescent base-64 headers
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
/home/chensw/eda/cadence/cadmos/install/bin.lnx86/softload: line 1412:
Could not extract information from FS.0 of CD#1.
Could not get platform or release information: command not found

how do u solve ?

chsw,

I have not met the troubles you faced because my OS is upgraded from RH8 to RH9. When in RH8, I install these tools. What I said is that they still can be run under an upgrade RH9, except N_C_S_!_m.

EDA tools on Redhat 9.0

Please set environment LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to 2.4.1 on redhat 9.0.
In bash command,
export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1
Then you can solve most of the compatibility problems on Redhat 9.0.

N_C_S_!_M

alfred2002,

Thank you very much. Now N_C_S_!_M is OK.

Re: EDA tools on Redhat 9.0

tetramax2002.9 can not work on Redhat 9.0 with LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 though it works on RedHat 8.0.
Anyone can solve this problem?

alfred2002

Syn0psis 2003.03 and nc 4.1 are OK with RH9

I am trying to install Synopsy 2002.05 on RH 9.0. I tried using

and my installation is stucking at

WARNING: Invalid platform(s) LINUX. Skipping ...

Select platform(s) to install:

Synopsys 2002.05 does not work on Redhat 8.0 and above

when you stuck at

WARNING: Invalid platform(s) LINUX. Skipping

the easiest way to work around is

"mv linux LINUX" or "mv LINUX linux" (forgot which one is savior)

in your install directory.

I find if copy from windows to linux, the letter
will change .So you should uncompress in linux ,you will not need to change name
from linux to LINUX.This truble i have meet
several time.

Well, I can't make IC 5.0 install on RH 9.0. I only manage to install it in RH 8.0. Some how, it will give me error on the lnx86.tools (seems like it's looking for Tools instate of lnx86.tools) while I try to load it. I am not sure why is that happened, since I got no problem on the other machine.

For S_Y_N_O_P_S_Y_S tools, they only recommend user to use RH 7.2, as far as I know although some might work well with RH 9.

If you are trying to install any linux version tool, please check with its release note. RH 7.2 should be a good choice for most EDA tools.

I also can't install $ynop$y$ DC on RatHat 9.0
