Read serial port using chrome extension?

Hi, I would like to know if anyone has done this before. I would like to develop a chrome extension that can read the comport data and output it on a text box. I'm trying to use the chrome.serial api but I'm not quite familiar about it yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!
