Protection from capacitors effects

An inverter is connected at the output of rectifier (terminals of capacitor ) and then induction motor is connected at the output of inverter .What should i do for discharging of a big capacitor in rectifier when these arrangement is made .How to protect the diodes of rectifier and the IGBTS of inverter from the effect of that capacitor ?how should i avoid any wrong happening .
