USB is a standard, they are all the same.
USB has four connections, the outer two are 5V power supply up to 500mA current and the inner two are the differential signal lines.
I am not quite sure about headphone!
But as the other person explains USB has four wires two for communication and two for power.
There are certain requirements and limitation on power such as:
- current should be less than 100 mA unless a negociation be initiated by the device and be approved by host
- Inrush current should be under certain limits:
Re: Need USB connector tosupports both charging and headpho
I think your problem is not the USB connector (a connector is a dummy thing) but the mixing before them. USB provides 5 connections:
Power Supplies
Ground
Identification Pin
Differential Data +
Differential Data -
Therefore, you may assign the two differential signals and the ID pin to the Audio output and the microphone to get a stereo headphone.
The difficult part is to identify the accessory you have plug (charger or headset) to provide the proper signal muxing to the connector.
It may help this component from Freescale (that does the job for you): https://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=MC34825&nodeId=0143597973
Or at least the FAN3989 from Fairchild that detects a USB standard charger.
