In a previous job position I have been doing analog IC design and layout using Cadence and Mentor tools.
Analog IC design and layout is no longer part of my job scope, but I am still interested further working on this in my spare time and would like to devise some circuits to run in MPW at MOSIS or Europractice.
I have been looking into the appropriate tool for this, taking into account my limited budget (since this is more of a hobby than of any commercial activity). I found L-Edit to be a very good tool, a complete suite with the required foundry support. However, this of course is still a reasonably large expenditure. I also found Magic and this also seems to be supported by e.g. the MOSIS program.
So my question is: does any one have any experience (related to the useability of the tool, to any errors encountered when going to fab, any other issues...) with using Magic for MPW runs with medium complexity circuits? And would one generally advise to use a tool like Magic or would it be more advisable in any case to use a tool like L-Edit?
