I recall in the previous job (~ 12+ years back) one of our
CAD guys found a graphics-format to GDS-II converter
program, and I was able to convert & stream in some art
using that as a setpping-stone.
But a lot of companies don't allow that on production
masks anymore (weenies).
Here is some links on how to convert GDS text labels to drawn text (polygons).
This is applicable to "klayout" software - so if you need to apply this for Virtuoso, you would have to save GDS file from klayout and import (stream in) into Virtuoso.
