Hi,

I have a powersupply which can deliver 12 v 2.5 amp DC from a 12v 2.5 transformer.... and i want a 5V 5 Amp supply from this....

Is it possible to increase the current by decreasing the voltage using any circuit...

If it is possible...

please help....

Thank You.

Re: Increasing Current of sorce

Of course its not possible, because current depends from wire square area, and square area of trafo core. You can try to pull more current from it but temperature will increase and wires will be burned.

What you can do to dissasemble trafo and put new wires with bigger diammeter, but check if there is space for that, and for that square area of trafo core must be for that power, or temp will increase, and other bad things will happen.

Re: Increasing Current of sorce

Is there any current multiplier circuit to do the purpose....?

Re: Increasing Current of sorce

In this scenario no. Trafo must be apropriate with power for his job.

Re: Increasing Current of sorce

How about Down Converter of 50% Duty?
I think it can achieve 90% efficient...

Re: Increasing Current of sorce

You can experiment of course. But I dont think its possible to get 90% eff. This is small trafo and soon temp will start to increase.

I know from other thread that you whant to make HHO power supply, can you find some device with some trafo and just extract trafo from it? Or just buy new.

Yes its for hho cell... i have searched in many electronic shops near here to find a transformer of 5v 7amp... but unfortunately i didnt got any....

MOT is not available here because still its not being used in vast here...

Dear demetal
Hi
It will be pretty possible , if you use an SMPS , such as fly back or forward converter ! it will decrease the out put voltage and increase the out put current and the input current will be around 2 amp

Can you suggest any circuit for that...

Thank you

Re: Increasing Current of sorce

Sure , see the application note of UC3844 or 45 or it's datasheet . or SG3526N . or TL494 . you'll find good suggestions .
By the way , are you familiar with SMPS design ?
Wish you the best
